From the East
June 3rd, 2009Brethren,
There is a lot of information that I want to pass on to our membership so for at least for this month I have broken it all down by categories.
Brethren,
There is a lot of information that I want to pass on to our membership so for at least for this month I have broken it all down by categories.
Brethren, here is the lineup for the month of May:
May 11 is our Grand Lodge of Instruction for the 15th district. ALL Amwell officers must be in attendance. Those members of the lodge who are not officers are most welcome to attend this function (and should). The GLI will be held at Gothic Lodge 270. If anyone needs directions to Gothic give me a call. If possible we should try to car pool from Lambertville. Let’s try to reduce our carbon footprint. We need to leave this planet in better shape for our children’s children… Read the rest of this entry »
Dear Brethren,
As I came across a recent column from the NY Times this morning (see link), I realized that as our modern societies move away from the “bookish way philosophy is conceived by most people” and closer to a “dominance of [an] emotional approach of morality”, the traditional way of Freemasonry teaching reveals all its modernity.
Brethren,
We have been doing well in terms of attracting new membership to the
Lodge. We have so far 2 candidates working through their degrees from last
year, 2 new petitions accepted for membership, 2 petitions with
investigation committees, and potentially 3 more petitions to be submitted
by May. Not bad! It also means a lot of degree work coming up for us. This
will be a good time for the current officers to take a much larger role in

about this during our up coming ritual practices. As I see it at the moment,
the degree work breaks out in the following manner:

We are all now living in a time where there is clearly economic adversity and uncertainty for our people, our nation, and the rest of the world. The pressure this is placing on all of us may give way to a tendency of being a little less civil, and a little more abrupt in our dealings with other people. Read the rest of this entry »
In the event of the election of R. W. William H. Berman, as Grand Master of Freemasons of the State of New Jersey and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Masonic Charity Foundation, at the 222nd Annual Communication of this Grand Lodge and 80th Annual Meeting of the Masonic Charity Foundation on 16 April 2009, the Brethren, their ladies and friends are cordially and fraternally invited to attend the following: Read the rest of this entry »
Brethren,
We are now moving into our second month of the year and there is a lot going on. Lets see if we can’t get a better turnout for our February meeting, as opposed to what we had in January. A Fellow Craft degree is coming up on February 23rd. This is for our two candidates in waiting that have completed the EA degree in December. Read the rest of this entry »
Here what Wikipedia, the internet encyclopedia, says about the Regius Poem:
The Halliwell Manuscript, also known as the Regius Poem, is the first known Masonic text. It consists of 64 written pages in poetic form. The poem begins by evoking Euclid and his invention of geometry in ancient Egypt and then the spreading of the art of geometry in “divers lands.” This is followed by fifteen points for the master concerning both moral behaviour (do not harbour thieves, do not take bribes, attend church regularly, etc.) and the operation of work on a building site (do not make your masons labour at night, teach apprentices properly, do not take on jobs that you cannot do etc.). There are then fifteen points for craftsmen which follow a similar pattern. Read the rest of this entry »
Brethren, Salutations! And welcome to the year 2009. My favorite saying is: “the only real constant in the universe is change.” As you all should know Amwell lodge has a new Worshipful Master (me). It’s my very first time at bat in the East, so please be kind. We also have a new lineup for the lodge officers (see the revised list on the back page of this Trestle- Board.)
